Methods

Class Participation

Participation is synonymous with attendance and engagement. There is no such thing as passive learning in a synchronous/online course. We will meet collectively in Zoom on Mondays from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, for new theory/skills, exercises, presentations and review. In order to receive credit, you must be available with both your video and audio turned on. Engagement means interacting with both the instructor and your classmates in Zoom and on the Discussion Board. Please see the Zoom Participation Rubric in Course Contents for more details. The Discussion Board Forums will be used for assignments and reading discussions, reflections, group projects, and to share your learning. The key to making Discussion Board conversations meaningful is not how many times you post; it’s the quality of your thinking and meaningful responses that count. Please see the Discussion Board Participation Rubric in Course Contents for more details. Your participation in the Zoom sessions is worth 20% and your participation on the Discussion Board is worth 20% of your grade.

Assignments
There are assignments tied to the readings, videos and Power Point (PPT) which must be completed in the module they are offered. These assignments demonstrate your understanding of key information and what impact it has on you. Check each Module carefully so you do not miss these assignments. Assignments are worth 15% of your grade.

Quizzes
There will be two quizzes which must be completed in the module they are offered. All quizzes will be based on the text, readings, and information from the group projects. More information will be provided prior to each quiz. Quizzes are worth 10% of your grade.

Group Research and Presentation
You will each participate in a Group Project. The group project will be a lab in which to experience, reflect on, and apply what you have learned about working in a group/team, this includes: working with others, researching a specific topic, and presenting your material to the rest of the class in a Power Point (PPT). Group Research and Presentation is worth 15% of your grade.

Team Project Paper
This paper should demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of teams; their structure, roles, communication and decision-making. Team Project Paper is worth 10% of your grade.

Reflection/Application Paper
You will each complete a Reflection/Application Paper of approximately 4-6 pages. In this paper you will be asked to apply the theory, strategies and skills you have learned in this course to a live (or past) troublesome behavior. A specific outline will be made available as the course progresses. The Reflection/Application Paper is worth 10% of your grade.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance and participation in classes are essential for success in and are completion requirements for courses at CCV. A student's failure to meet attendance requirements as specified in course descriptions will normally result in a non-satisfactory grade.

  • In general, missing more than 20% of a course due to absences, lateness or early departures may jeopardize a student's ability to earn a satisfactory final grade.
  • Attending an on-ground or synchronous course means a student appeared in the live classroom for at least a meaningful portion of a given class meeting. Attending an online course means a student posted a discussion forum response, completed a quiz or attempted some other academically required activity. Simply viewing a course item or module does not count as attendance.
  • Meeting the minimum attendance requirement for a course does not mean a student has satisfied the academic requirements for participation, which require students to go above and beyond simply attending a portion of the class. Faculty members will individually determine what constitutes participation in each course they teach and explain in their course descriptions how participation factors into a student's final grade.

Accessibility Services for Students with Disabilities:

CCV strives to mitigate barriers to course access for students with documented disabilities. To request accommodations, please
  1. Provide disability documentation to the Accessibility Coordinator at your academic center. https://ccv.edu/discover-resources/students-with-disabilities/
  2. Request an appointment to meet with accessibility coordinator to discuss your request and create an accommodation plan.
  3. Once created, students will share the accommodation plan with faculty. Please note, faculty cannot make disability accommodations outside of this process.

Academic Integrity

CCV has a commitment to honesty and excellence in academic work and expects the same from all students. Academic dishonesty, or cheating, can occur whenever you present -as your own work- something that you did not do. You can also be guilty of cheating if you help someone else cheat. Being unaware of what constitutes academic dishonesty (such as knowing what plagiarism is) does not absolve a student of the responsibility to be honest in his/her academic work. Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously and may lead to dismissal from the College.
