Course Description

Students assess their style of conflict management and learn skills needed for the creative management of interpersonal conflict. Covers business and personal applications.


Essential Objectives

1. Define different conflict management models and describe their characteristics.
2. Discuss the skills required for effective management of conflict.
3. Distinguish between conflict management and conflict resolution.
4. Discuss ways to avoid potential conflict in the workplace, e.g. clear job descriptions, regular communication channels, healthy work conditions.
5. Explain the roles of the employee and the supervisor in resolving conflict in the workplace.

Required Textbooks and Resources

The last day to use a Financial Aid Advance to purchase textbooks/books is the 3rd Tuesday of the semester. See your financial aid counselor at your academic center if you have any questions.


Methods

This is a self-paced course which means that students will be starting and progressing at different rates throughout the semester. Once you feel like you have a strong handle on the material, and you have completed all of the assignments for the module, you should feel comfortable moving on, regardless of the pace, as long as you complete the course within the semester timeframe.

The learning modules will consist of learning resources, demonstrate your learning forums and assignments.

Demonstrate your Learning Forums are a part of every learning module and most are post-first discussions – which means that you will post your reply before being able to read the replies of others.

The assignments, in addition to the discussion forums, will assess your learning of the module outcomes.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance and participation in classes are essential for success in and are completion requirements for courses at CCV. A student's failure to meet attendance requirements as specified in course descriptions will normally result in a non-satisfactory grade.

  • In general, missing more than 20% of a course due to absences, lateness or early departures may jeopardize a student's ability to earn a satisfactory final grade.
  • Attending an on-ground or synchronous course means a student appeared in the live classroom for at least a meaningful portion of a given class meeting. Attending an online course means a student posted a discussion forum response, completed a quiz or attempted some other academically required activity. Simply viewing a course item or module does not count as attendance.
  • Meeting the minimum attendance requirement for a course does not mean a student has satisfied the academic requirements for participation, which require students to go above and beyond simply attending a portion of the class. Faculty members will individually determine what constitutes participation in each course they teach and explain in their course descriptions how participation factors into a student's final grade.


Missing & Late Work Policy

This flex course is completely self-paced so there are no Late Work policies except that class must be completed by the official end of the semester.

Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously and may lead to dismissal from the College.
