Artificial Intelligence(AI) Policy Statement

CCV recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI tools are widely available and becoming embedded in many online writing and creative applications.

Prohibited: The use of generative AI is not allowed in this course, with the exception of spellcheck, grammar check and similar tools. This course rests in the value of students engaging in the learning process without relying on AI-generated content. Students will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills independently, owning their learning journey from start to finish. If you use these tools, your actions would be considered academically dishonest and a violation of CCV's Academic Integrity Policy.

Any work that is determined to be from an AI generated program will not receive a passing grade.

Methods

This course is an online course. Each new week begins on Tuesday and ends the following Monday. So on Tuesdays, you will find a new module, new readings, new discussions and new assignments. You need to be able to use Canvas to access the weekly module. (NOTE: A Canvas app is also available for cell phones.) Students should plan 8 to 10 hours a week to complete course expectations.

Each week, the instructor will provide a brief overview of key concepts and clarification on the work for the week. Online courses require an on-going presence. You cannot sit down once and do it all. In fact, for the discussions, you need to post several times during the week to get full credit. Rubrics on expectations related to discussions will be in the modules.

Discussions / Online presence (20%)

A successful student will show up every week and will post to discussions and complete all assignments by the due date. Assignments turned in late will not receive a grade.

Student will read through material and the chapter(s) in the textbook. Then there will be a discussion post on the topic of the week, and the initial post needs to be made by Thursday midnight at the latest. As the week progresses, students need to read other classmates posts and make comments on the post. Instructor will also add comments and questions as the week progresses. Failure to be active in the discussions will affect this grade and if you don’t participate in a discussion at all, it will count as an absence. Two absences result in one step down in your grade (if you had an A, then you’ll get a B etc.) Three absences and you will not pass the class.

Weekly Assignments (15%)

Each class there will be required readings of the text and an assigned written assignment. There may be more than one assignment. The written assignment(s) will be explained in the syllabus and in each class meeting.

Quizzes (20%)

During the semester, there will be scheduled quizzes to reinforce the learning topics covered. These quizzes will be True / False or Multiple-choice questions or a combination of both. Generally, quizzes have around 20 to 25 questions.

Business Plan (25%)

This course will guide you through the steps to create an awesome business plan. Whether you intend to actually create a business or just want the experience of creating a business plan, this activity helps a student understand the main components of any business.

Final Exam (20%)

The final exam will be at the end of the semester and will encompass all the learning points covered in the course. Again, it will be a combination of True / False and Multiple Choice questions and while I can’t say at this time how many questions, there will be more than 20.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance and participation in classes are essential for success in and are completion requirements for courses at CCV. A student's failure to meet attendance requirements as specified in course descriptions will normally result in a non-satisfactory grade.

  • In general, missing more than 20% of a course due to absences, lateness or early departures may jeopardize a student's ability to earn a satisfactory final grade.
  • Attending an on-ground or synchronous course means a student appeared in the live classroom for at least a meaningful portion of a given class meeting. Attending an online course means a student posted a discussion forum response, completed a quiz or attempted some other academically required activity. Simply viewing a course item or module does not count as attendance.
  • Meeting the minimum attendance requirement for a course does not mean a student has satisfied the academic requirements for participation, which require students to go above and beyond simply attending a portion of the class. Faculty members will individually determine what constitutes participation in each course they teach and explain in their course descriptions how participation factors into a student's final grade.

Participation Expectations

A successful student will show up every week and will post to discussions and complete all assignments by the due date. An initial post should be by Thursday of each week with responses to classmates happening over subsequent days. Students cannot participate successfully by posting everything at one time.

Missing & Late Work Policy

Late work is not accepted. Missing and late work will receive a zero grade.

Accessibility Services for Students with Disabilities:

CCV strives to mitigate barriers to course access for students with documented disabilities. To request accommodations, please
  1. Provide disability documentation to the Accessibility Coordinator at your academic center. https://ccv.edu/student-support/accessibility-services/
  2. Request an appointment to meet with accessibility coordinator to discuss your request and create an accommodation plan.
  3. Once created, students will share the accommodation plan with faculty. Please note, faculty cannot make disability accommodations outside of this process.

Academic Integrity

CCV has a commitment to honesty and excellence in academic work and expects the same from all students. Academic dishonesty, or cheating, can occur whenever you present -as your own work- something that you did not do. You can also be guilty of cheating if you help someone else cheat. Being unaware of what constitutes academic dishonesty (such as knowing what plagiarism is) does not absolve a student of the responsibility to be honest in his/her academic work. Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously and may lead to dismissal from the College.
