Attendance Policy

Regular attendance and participation in classes are essential for success in and are completion requirements for courses at CCV. A student's failure to meet attendance requirements as specified in course descriptions will normally result in a non-satisfactory grade.

  • In general, missing more than 20% of a course due to absences, lateness or early departures may jeopardize a student's ability to earn a satisfactory final grade.
  • Attending an on-ground or synchronous course means a student appeared in the live classroom for at least a meaningful portion of a given class meeting. Attending an online course means a student posted a discussion forum response, completed a quiz or attempted some other academically required activity. Simply viewing a course item or module does not count as attendance.
  • Meeting the minimum attendance requirement for a course does not mean a student has satisfied the academic requirements for participation, which require students to go above and beyond simply attending a portion of the class. Faculty members will individually determine what constitutes participation in each course they teach and explain in their course descriptions how participation factors into a student's final grade.

Participation Expectations

  • In-Class: attending class, engaging in class discussions, attentive during demonstrations, open to feedback, working with focus on in-class projects, and bringing materials to class.
  • Canvas: Read, watch, and or listen to content connected to that week's learning objectives.
  • Submit Online: assignments and projects online *
  • Physically hand in assignments at the beginning of class *

Art Supplies are covered by the course fee. Students are responsible for bringing their materials to every class. There are no extra materials. Forgetting materials will prevent a student from participating in class. Students who lose their materials will be responsible for purchasing replacements.

* IMPORTANT: Assignments are submitted both online and in-person.

  • Failure to submit assignments online will result in a 0 even if you did the assignment and brought it to class.
  • Failure to submit assignments in-person will in -10 pts for the day's participation grade and an additional -10 pts on critique days.

Missing & Late Work Policy

Don't wait until the last minute. Unless you want to use your 1 extension (see below) exceptions will not be made if your supplies don't arrive in time, your internet went down at 10 pm, you got the stomach flu the day an assignment is due or submitted at 12:01 am.

Assignments & Projects
Late work may be submitted within 48 hrs of the due date. 10 points per day will be deducted.

Discussions
10 points deducted for late posts or replies. Late work will not be accepted after Monday, 11:59 pm. 1-time extension cannot be used for Discussions.

Missing Work
Failure to hand in an assignment, project, or discussion will result in an automatic 20% for that assignment. Missing work cannot be submitted after the above deadlines.

Exceptions?
Students whose grade is 70% or higher may request1 extension for a drawing assignment or project, for any reason, during the semester. Use your "get out of jail free card" wisely. If you use your extension to go on vacation an additional extension will not be granted if you have a family emergency later in the semester.

Extensions must be requested 24-hours before the assignment is due.

Extensions apply only to assignments due on Thursdays and Mondays. Extensions will not be given for Discussions.

When an extension is granted the assignment is due the following Monday. For example, if the assignment was due during Week 2, the extension deadline is the last day of Week 3 (Monday, 11:59 pm).

Extensions will not be granted during Weeks 7 and 15 (even for those who haven't used their 1 extension).

If a truly catastrophic circumstance occurs contact your advisor first, then me. The three of us will work together to help you stay on track when possible.

Accessibility Services for Students with Disabilities:

CCV strives to mitigate barriers to course access for students with documented disabilities. To request accommodations, please
  1. Provide disability documentation to the Accessibility Coordinator at your academic center. https://ccv.edu/discover-resources/students-with-disabilities/
  2. Request an appointment to meet with accessibility coordinator to discuss your request and create an accommodation plan.
  3. Once created, students will share the accommodation plan with faculty. Please note, faculty cannot make disability accommodations outside of this process.

Academic Integrity

CCV has a commitment to honesty and excellence in academic work and expects the same from all students. Academic dishonesty, or cheating, can occur whenever you present -as your own work- something that you did not do. You can also be guilty of cheating if you help someone else cheat. Being unaware of what constitutes academic dishonesty (such as knowing what plagiarism is) does not absolve a student of the responsibility to be honest in his/her academic work. Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously and may lead to dismissal from the College.
