Artificial Intelligence(AI) Policy Statement

CCV recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI tools are widely available and becoming embedded in many online writing and creative applications.

Prohibited: The use of generative AI is not allowed in this course, with the exception of spellcheck, grammar check and similar tools. This course rests in the value of students engaging in the learning process without relying on AI-generated content. Students will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills independently, owning their learning journey from start to finish. If you use these tools, your actions would be considered academically dishonest and a violation of CCV's Academic Integrity Policy.

The use AI in the discussion forums is not allowed. You must write your own personal thoughts.

Methods

Classes will include readings, slide presentations, tutorials, videos, weekly discussions, student presentations, and self, group, and individual critiques.

Weekly drawing exercises and longer-term projects will be completed throughout the semester. Work will be evaluated at regular intervals, with instructor feedback provided to support growth and improvement.

Students are required to post presentations of weekly exercises as well as extended drawing projects. In addition, you will write about your experiences and processes while working on assignments and offer thoughtful feedback to classmates.

Weekly exercises and assignments are generally due on Mondays by midnight, unless otherwise noted. All work must be photographed, displayed, and presented in a professional manner, following all provided specifications. Presentations should demonstrate growth, skill development, and technical progress in all areas covered in class.

Students will receive a letter grade for each exercise, each drawing assignment, and their level of participation in weekly discussion forums.

Evaluation Criteria

All assignments and discussions must be completed and on time. Most assignments will be due under the Canvas Assignment Module by Mondays at midnight. Discussions will be visited multiple times a week, first to post you work and personal thoughts by Mondays at midnight and at least once more to comment and give feedback to your classmates by Friday of the same week.

Assignments are worth 100 points. Discussions are worth 50 points, 30 for posting your work and writing 1 or 2 paragraphs about your process and experience and 20 points for the quality of comments and feedback to at least 2 of your classmates.

Plan on spending at least 8 - 10 hours a week on assignments. This amount of time is necessary to see development.

Presentations of drawing assignments, is required. All work will be displayed and presented in a professional manner, and following all specifications. These presentations will illustrate growth and developed skill and technique in all areas covered in class from week to week.

Art and design is very subjective. You are not graded based on whether or not I like a design. Grades are based on:

  1. Effort, progression, quality, and completion of extended projects

  3. Completing weekly exercises/assignments based on guidelines and specifications
  4. Presentations of extended projects
  5. Active participation in all aspects of the course

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance and participation in classes are essential for success in and are completion requirements for courses at CCV. A student's failure to meet attendance requirements as specified in course descriptions will normally result in a non-satisfactory grade.

  • In general, missing more than 20% of a course due to absences, lateness or early departures may jeopardize a student's ability to earn a satisfactory final grade.
  • Attending an on-ground or synchronous course means a student appeared in the live classroom for at least a meaningful portion of a given class meeting. Attending an online course means a student posted a discussion forum response, completed a quiz or attempted some other academically required activity. Simply viewing a course item or module does not count as attendance.
  • Meeting the minimum attendance requirement for a course does not mean a student has satisfied the academic requirements for participation, which require students to go above and beyond simply attending a portion of the class. Faculty members will individually determine what constitutes participation in each course they teach and explain in their course descriptions how participation factors into a student's final grade.

Participation Expectations

All assignments must be completed and submitted on time. Unless otherwise noted, assignments are due in the Assignments module, and related posts belong in the Critique and Discussion Forum by Monday at midnight.

Discussions will be visited multiple times each week. You are expected to post your work and a reflection on your process by Monday at midnight, and return at least once more to comment on and provide feedback to classmates by Friday of the same week. If your work is not posted on time, you may not receive instructor feedback.

Assignments are worth 100 points. Discussions are worth 50 points, divided as follows:

  • 25 points for posting your work along with a 1–2 paragraph reflection on your process and experience

  • 25 points for the quality of comments, critiques, and feedback provided to at least two classmates

Plan to spend 8–10 hours per week on assignments. This time commitment is essential for meaningful skill development and growth.

Presentations of all exercises and projects are required. All work must be photographed and presented in a professional manner, following provided specifications. These presentations should clearly demonstrate growth, skill development, and technical proficiency in all areas covered in the course.

Missing & Late Work Policy

Assignments may be submitted up to one week after the deadline with a penalty of 10% deducted for each day they are late. Work submitted more than one week past the deadline will not be accepted for credit.

Late posts are not accepted in the discussion forum. Timely interaction with classmates is a core component of the course and cannot be made up after the discussion period has ended.

Extensions are granted only in extenuating circumstances. If a serious medical issue or other emergent personal situation will affect your ability to complete weekly discussions or assignments, please notify me by email as soon as possible.

Students who anticipate being unable to access the course during a given week are responsible for contacting me in advance to make arrangements to complete assignments and participation requirements prior to the absence.

Accessibility Services for Students with Disabilities:

CCV strives to mitigate barriers to course access for students with documented disabilities. To request accommodations, please
  1. Provide disability documentation to the Accessibility Coordinator at your academic center. https://ccv.edu/student-support/accessibility-services/
  2. Request an appointment to meet with accessibility coordinator to discuss your request and create an accommodation plan.
  3. Once created, students will share the accommodation plan with faculty. Please note, faculty cannot make disability accommodations outside of this process.

Academic Integrity

CCV has a commitment to honesty and excellence in academic work and expects the same from all students. Academic dishonesty, or cheating, can occur whenever you present -as your own work- something that you did not do. You can also be guilty of cheating if you help someone else cheat. Being unaware of what constitutes academic dishonesty (such as knowing what plagiarism is) does not absolve a student of the responsibility to be honest in his/her academic work. Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously and may lead to dismissal from the College.
