Additional Instructor Pre-Assignments/Notes/Comments:

This particular session of CIS1041 is a comprehensive survey of business computer applications including working in a cloud environment, managing file sharing, using the powerful features of Microsoft Office applications, and Google Drive. Even if you have prior experience with Microsoft Office, this course offers a lot in preparing the student to use computer applications for communication and analysis.

There is no required textbook for this class but there is an amount of work out of three textbooks which will be provided as PDFs for free. Students may request a compiled document to have printed at a copy center if they require printed material. All of the materials for this course are online including a mix of reading, activities, and videos. Students will need to find time where they have access to the internet to consume the assigned reading and video materials and complete their assignments. Internet access is always available at the college. For some assignments, students will need to use Microsoft Office installed on a desktop or laptop with Windows or Mac. The college provides the software for free. Students must use or obtain a Google account. Homework assignments will be completed using Canvas (CCV's online learning environment), Google Drive (a free service of Google), and Microsoft Office 2016/O365 or newer (Office 365 installed is availble for free from the college for all students).

Students will be required to subscribe to a Google account for the duration of the semester. A number of assignments also require Office 365 (or whatever the most current version of Office is) and students will be able to more completely accomplish their homework with a full copy of this software. Both Office 365 online and Office 365 are available for students free of charge when enrolled at CCV. The most current version of Microsoft Office will not install on a Chromebook, iPads, smartphones, or any device with an iOS or Android operating system.

Accessibility Services for Students with Disabilities: CCV strives to mitigate barriers to course access for students with documented disabilities. To request accommodations, please

  1. Provide disability documentation to the Accessibility Coordinator at your academic center. https://ccv.edu/discover-resources/students-with-disabilities/
  2. Request an appointment to meet with accessibility coordinator to discuss your request and create an accommodation plan.
  3. Once created, students will share the accommodation plan with faculty. Please note, faculty cannot make disability accommodations outside of this process.

Academic Honesty: CCV has a commitment to honesty and excellence in academic work and expects the same from all students. Academic dishonesty, or cheating, can occur whenever you present -as your own work- something that you did not do. You can also be guilty of cheating if you help someone else cheat. Being unaware of what constitutes academic dishonesty (such as knowing what plagiarism is) does not absolve a student of the responsibility to be honest in his/her academic work. Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously and may lead to dismissal from the College.
