Course Blurbs and Essential Objectives

CIS-2110   Concepts of PC Hardware   3 Credits
 
In this course students install, manage, repair, configure, and troubleshoot PC system unit components and peripheral devices. Network infrastructure, network connections, and support of laptop, mobile devices and print devices are discussed. This course covers concepts found on the CompTIA A+ certification exam. Recommended prior or concurrent learning: Intro to Computer Science.
 
    1. Explain technology terms and acronyms using plain language.
    2. Describe the purpose and use of the system BIOS / UEFI.
    3. Develop the specification for a desktop computer design based upon intended use.
    4. Demonstrate the ability to install and configure PC system components with consideration of: thermal management, efficiency, economy, physical space constraints, and ergonomics.
    5. Demonstrate the ability to connect and configure input/output devices such as: monitor, projector keyboard, and mouse.
    6. Demonstrate the ability to support and troubleshoot mobile devices such as: laptops, notebooks, netbooks, and smart devices.
    7. Demonstrate the ability to install, configure, and support various print and scanning technologies.
    8. Model network configuration and the troubleshooting of network devices.
