Is An Online Course For Me?

To determine if an online course will meet your needs, please answer the following questions honestly. Choose one answer for each question. When you've completed all the questions, click on the submit button at the end. Your score and recommendations will be processed automatically.

  1. My need to take the course now is:

High. I need it immediately for degree, job, or other important reason.
Moderate. I could take it on-site later or substitute another course.
Low. It's a personal interest that could be postponed.

  2. I would consider myself to be someone who:

Often gets things done ahead of time.
Needs reminding to get things done on time.
Puts things off until the last minute.

  3. Face-to-face discussion is:

    Rarely helpful to me.
    Sometimes helpful to me.
    Almost always helpful to me.

  4. When an instructor hands out directions for an assignment, I prefer:

Figuring out the instructions on my own.
Trying to follow the directions on my own, then asking for help as needed.
Having the instructions elaborated and explained in detail.

  5. I need instructors' comments on my assignments:

Within a few weeks so I can review what I did
Within a few days or I forget what I did.
Right away or I get very frustrated.

  6. Considering my work and personal schedule, the amount of time I have remaining to work on online courses is:

More than enough for an on-site, face-to-face course.
The same as I would have for an on-site, face-to-face course.
Less than I would have for an on-site, face-to-face course.

  7. When I am asked to use VCR's, computers, voice mail, or other technologies and media new to me:

I look forward to learning new technological skills and competencies.
I feel apprehensive, but try to learn it anyway.
I put off and try to avoid it, or never really learn.

  8. As a reader I consider myself:

Good. I usually understand the text without help.
Average. I sometimes need help to understand the text.
I frequently have difficulty understanding what I've read and require some explanation to help me fully grasp what I've read.

  9. If I have to go to a CCV site to use lab resources:

I can get to the site almost anytime.
Unless the nearest site's labs are available on weekends, I might not be able to use them.
I cannot get to any site without some difficulty and inconvenience.

  10. Feeling that I am part of a face-to-face social group is:

    Not particularly necessary to me.
    Somewhat important to me.
    Very important to me.
